The first time I came to Europe was in Italy and it took me about 3 meals before I figured out that the service didn't just suck at the first two places and that it must suck all over Italy. It makes perfect sense without the tipping culture. They literally don't care since they are getting paid regardless if you are happy or not. They have no incentive to care. At one place I had to track down the waiter to get another soda and then later track him down again to get the check because we sat there for over 1/2 after finishing our food before I had to track him down again to get the check. I thought maybe his shift had ended and he had left and forgotten we were still sitting there. It was ridiculous. I definitely like our tipping culture better, if not for that reason alone.

To touch on my previous comment most of the people Americans interact with are of course gonna be fellow Americans. So when we venture outside of our state of origin we disclose what state we’re from as a sense of pride and expression of identity. Cause as you touched on every state is a country within a country. And not sharing what state we’re from is not a full representation of your American identity. It would be like saying your from Europe but where in Europe it would just be way to vague

I find new york and Bostonian accents to be the most annoying, when I was in New York most of the people didn't really have much of an accent.

In some establishments in the U.S., all customers are asked to present their identification because management doesn't want to put the employee, often a teenager, into the position of making a judgement call about age. Most businesses only ask for ID if the customer is suspected of being too young. Selling products that require a certain age is a big deal in the U.S. because of liabilities and obeying the law. I am 76 and if asked to show my ID, I love it. Good for the ego.

We also have shows with one or more hosts who talk about the news, but they're much more opinionated than regular "news". Sadly, under US law, news is classified under "entertainment", which is something I really dislike. The reason why Americans disclose what state were from it’s because it’s apart of our identity. America is so vast and because of that it would be the equivalent of me asking you where your from and you were to reply Europe. To say we’re American would be to vague and it wouldn’t fully represent our identity.

As an American, I don't mind a waiter coming to check on our table once or twice to ask if things are ok, but occasionally I get one that checks five or six times, and that's just annoying. Like, if I have a problem, I have no problem with raising my hand to get his/her attention anyway. The worst is if I'm in a deeply emotional conversation with my GF or whomever, they can clearly see the situation, and they still interrupt to ask if we want some more water. Just fill the glass like most American waiters. :)
